Real Statement of Intent
Real Statement of Intent
The title of my music video is called "Headphones on, Books closed". My music video will explore the fact that fans can find music as comforting but also as a distraction from important things like work and studying. The lyrics acknowledge how fans procrastinate their studies and continue to watch their favourite singers. The lyrics, "Stop, now and study for your test" and "Your parents and boss hate me" shows how both artists and family feel about how people are slacking off. The storyline consists of a GCSE student who is falling behind on schoolwork and is constantly being told off by her family. The song I will be using is "Pied Piper" by BTS.
The intended audience for this music video is younger girl around the age 15-16. It could also be targeted to 17–18-year-olds since the could work and have A-Levels to focus on. I will be playing the GCSE student who procrastinate.
Stylistically, the video will make visual references to a
number of films / music videos / directors I admire. For example, Kwok Cheung
Tsang's 'Better Days' will be a particular source of inspiration. Its depiction
of school life centres around the lives of young people, my music video will
similarly tell the story of young people’s struggles through the eyes of the
young, showing how music can help us through hard times and is a source of
escapism. Similarly, I will be using Leehi’s ‘ONLY’ music video as inspiration
for camera shots. I particuarly admire the director's use of camera shots and diagetic and non-diagetic sound.
In terms of character theory,I will be playing the schoolgirl who is procrasinating her studies (the princess), one of my family members will be playing my mother (the hero), a friend will play my best friend who is distracting me from schoolwork (the villain) and another friend will play a teacher who is helping me find a solution and focus on passing my exams (the donor). The main locations I will be filming at is a cafe where the main protaganist will be studying, at home to produce the scenes with a family member who plays my mother and around school where the teachers will be helping the student find solutions to their problems.
